Eating Like a Scot for a Day

Today, I was supposed to board a plane to Scotland. It was a return trip my family had been dreaming about for years and planning for nearly as long. A few days in Edinburgh, another few around Stirling then Balmoral Castle, more near Fort William and Achnacarry for our beloved Clan Cameron gathering, then some time in Glasgow before returning to Edinburgh for a flight back to the States.

It would have been so grand…

Yet, the world and the coronavirus had other plans. I’m disappointed, sure, but it’s not the end of the world, and I’m choosing to focus on the positive. We’re safe, we’re healthy, and most of the time, we’re even in good spirits.

Also, because we’re lucky enough to live near British imports grocer, I’m going to spend the day eating like I’m in Scotland, even if I won’t be leaving my house.

Here’s the menu (with pictures added throughout the day as the meals are made):

Breakfast

Taylor’s Scottish Breakfast Tea

Bob’s Red Mill Scottish OatmealĀ

Lunch

Irn-Bru

Arran Potato Salad

Cameron’s Meat Pies with HP Sauce

Dinner

Mushy peas

Bubbles and Squeak Patties

Steak Balmoral and Whisky Sauce

Dessert

Homemade lemon curd

Homemade shortbread

(and there may be a wee bit of whisky.*)
Update: There *was* a wee bit of whisky
